We are back baby! The NHL is back in full swing and boy am I excited.
I love watching and betting on hockey and last season I found my favorite market to bet on, maybe in all sports and that is Shots on Goal.
The market really took off near the end of the season and really got big in the playoffs.
Now, with a fresh new season ahead of us, let’s have a profitable and fun time finding the advantageous spots of guys putting puck on net.
If you are new to this market, here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
A shot on goal is described as when a player takes a shot that is either saved by the goaltender or is scored.
A shot that is blocked by a defender or another player, hits the post or never reaches the goalie does not count as a SOG.
Always be mindful and pay attention to stat corrections. After the game, sometimes shots are taken away or added depending on how they were deemed during the game. Triple check the stats post game to make sure.
Ok with that being said, lets dive in to the slate of games and find the value!
SYDNEY CROSBY o2.5 SOGs (-135)
Sid the Kid isn’t a kid anymore, entering his 18th NHL season. But he is playing like he is still in his prime and one of the best players in the league.
The future HOFer has 2 goals and 6 points to start the season and has hit his shots in one of two to start.
But the reason I love this the most is he has hit his shots in 6 straight against the Habs.
Riding with Sid the Kid.
MORITZ SEIDER o2.5 SOGs (+105)
I love Moritz Seider.
He is one of my favorite players and after his insane rookie campaign last year, more and more people know his name.
He is such a well-rounded D man and his offensive effectiveness puts him firmly in the top 10 defensemen conversation for me.
He has hit his shots in the first two games this year and I don’t see that stopping tonight. Give me the plus money here.
Auston Matthews o4.5 SOGs (-115) CAESERS
Auston Matthews is an animal. He was the league MVP last season and scored 60 goals, a career high.
He has started just as hot this season, hitting his shots in every game so far this year and bagging one goal.
He has also hit his shots the last three matchups against the Coyotes. Look for him to want to score a couple tonight and rip the puck.
I will be betting on Matthews a lot this year and today is one of the many to come.
ELIAS PETTERSSON o2.5 SOGs (-130) FANDUEL
Pettersson has started the year really well, scoring in the opening game and hitting his shots in both games to start.
He is one of Vancouver’s best offensive weapons and loves to shoot the puck. Great value here.
JASON ROBERTSON o2.5 SOGs (-128) FANDUEL
As a Preds fan, I am not a fan of Jason Robertson.
But, he is so good for the Stars. This value for Robertson to have atelast 3 shots when he has gone over it the first 2 games is too good not to take.
The Jets also allow a lot of shots so far this year so they are a good target moving forward.
If you wanted to ladder Robertson, I love that play for the value.
He has 4 and 6 his first 2 games.
HOW TO LADDER
If you have never laddered a prop before, here is how I do it and you can adjust to your liking.
I play the original line for 1 unit.
I then play the next number up, which in this case, is 4+ SOGs, for a half unit.
Lastly, I go up to 5+ and play that for 0.25 units.
So, it’s:
o2.5 SOGs- 1 unit
4+- 0.5 unit
5+- 0.25 unit
You can apply this to all players and all sports. It is fun to do and if done correctly, you can really cash in on some nice plus money plays.
That is all I have for tonight. Enjoy the NHL slate and be sure to stay tuned all season long for Shot props and much more. Follow me on Twitter @SweatpantsJesus and @BN_Content to stay up to date and let’s have a great NHL season!
