Tiger Woods absent from US Open

Tiger Woods (USA), the ‘Emperor of Golf’, is absent from the US Open, the third major men’s golf tournament of the season.

The United States Golf Association (USGA) announced on the 23rd (Korean time) 84 players who will participate in the US Open without going through the preliminary round. Among them, Woods’ name was not included.

Woods’ absence from the US Open was expected as he underwent ankle surgery last month. Woods also did not participate in the PGA Championship, the second major event of the season that ended on the 22nd.

Woods, who suffered a major car accident in February 2021, went on the operating table on the 20th of last month to treat post-traumatic inflammation of the ankle bone that had been broken at that time.

His recovery period is as short as 8 weeks and as long as 12 weeks, and Woods is currently undergoing long-term rehabilitation.

Woods passed the cut at the Masters, the first major tournament of the season, before he got on the operating table. Since then, Woods, who has not participated in the two major tournaments, is uncertain about participating in the Open, which will be held in July at the end of the season.

There are four Korean players confirmed to participate in this US Open: Kim Joo-hyung (21, Nike), Lim Seong-jae (25), Kim Si-woo (28), and Lee Gyeong-hoon (32, CJ Logistics). Players who did not make it to the entry will go through preliminary rounds to secure tickets.

This year’s US Open will be held at Los Angeles CC, California, USA for four days from June 16th. The defending champion is Matt Fitzpatrick (Great Britain).안전놀이터
